Neurosurgery

Grupo Policlínica is highly committed to the technical equipment and personnel of the Neurosurgery Unit. We are firmly committed to minimally invasive techniques which provide greater safety and efficacy in treatments.

SPINAL SURGERY

Our professionals are experts in Biportal Endoscopic Spine Surgery, a minimally invasive technique imported from South Korea that has revolutionised spine surgery throughout Europe; our neurosurgeons were trained in their hospital of origin (Barum Hospital, South Korea) and now train other neurosurgeons throughout Europe.

Thanks to Biportal Spinal Endoscopy, patients can undergo surgery for many of the most common spinal pathologies (such as herniated discs, canal stenosis…) through two minimal incisions in the back, allowing the surgeon to address the problem without damaging the tissues adjacent to those being treated. This technique provides patients with shorter postoperative periods and less pain than traditional techniques.

BRAIN TUMOUR SURGERY

Our team also has extensive experience in brain tumour surgery. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, we achieve great precision in the approach and resection of the tumour. The bulk of the tumour mass is removed while respecting healthy brain tissue. In more than 95 % of cases, complete surgical resections are obtained. This is achieved using technologies such as: neuronavigation-guided microsurgery, microsurgical technique, neuronavigator, ultrasonic aspirator, vascular doppler, image-guided surgery or surgical microscope.

TREATMENT OF CEREBROSPINAL FLUID PATHOLOGY, HYDROCEPHALUS

The unit has a system for continuous recording of intracranial pressure, a diagnostic procedure that allows the type of hydrocephalus in the patient to be assessed and classified.

In addition, a wide range of state-of-the-art ventriculoperitoneal shunt valves are available.

In selected cases, cerebral endoscopy can be performed, both for the resection of intraventricular tumours and to perform a by-pass to restore the normal circulation of cerebrospinal fluid (Endoscopic Premamillary Ventriculostomy).

RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY FOR ARNOLD-CHIARI MALFORMATION

Our specialists perform posterior cranial fossa reconstruction to enlarge the suboccipital space and restore cerebrospinal fluid circulation.

RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY OF THE BRACHIAL PLEXUS AND PERIPHERAL NERVES

There is extensive experience in microsurgery for the decompression of peripheral nerves (carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar entrapment, tarsal tunnel syndrome, intraneural ganglion…).
